Make Soy Sauce and Taste Traditional Sweets in Asuka, Nara
Try making your own soy sauce at a soy sauce brewery full of retro Taisho romance! Includes chewy Mitarashi Dango(dumplings) from a popular local shop.
This is a naturally brewed soy sauce shop that has been in business for
three generations since 1919, on the approach to Okadera Temple in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture. When you enter the brewery, you can feel living yeast in a mysterious, different space.Tokuboshi Soy Sauce, which has been handcrafted for generations, will carefully teach you about soy sauce and take you inside the soy sauce brewery, which is not easy to see.
After learning about the soy sauce manufacturing process, you will be able to squeeze the soy sauce yourself at a cedar brewery that has been in operation since the Taisho era (1912-1926).Bottle it, label it, and your soy sauce is complete!
Enjoy the Tofu from Asuka Village, a long-established shop with a history of over 100 years, topped with soy sauce that you squeezed yourself. The handmade soy sauce, which has been aged for a long time in the 100-year-old cedar vat that has been passed down from the first generation, is characterized by its sweetness, slightly strong flavor, and strong aroma. We would like you to take the time to enjoy handmade soy sauce, which takes time and effort, while reminding you of the village of Nara in the Manyo period (710-794).

After the experience, you will have the opportunity to try grilling Mitarashi Dango(dumplings). The Dango(dumplings) are from the popular local shop Imanishi Seishindo, and from the ingredients to the manufacturing method, the techniques have been passed down through three generations of parents and children. The materials are also carefully selected. The Mitarashi Dango(dumplings) sauce is an original sauce made with Tokuboshi soy sauce. You can spend a luxurious moment in a wonderful space renovated from an old folk house. (Green tea included)
